Job seekers frequently make the difficult decision to leave their homes and families to find work elsewhere. Typically, they move to one of the country’s major metros. But Limpopo just listed over 700 provincial government jobs, suggesting there may be more jobs outside the business districts?
There’s tremendous competition in the metros because of semigration. Those on the job market will move to cities like Johannesburg and Cape Town in search of better jobs.

There may be more jobs in these cities, but there’s also more competition.
According to Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), 4.1 million South Africans moved to Gauteng for employment opportunities. The same data revealed that many of these internal migrants come from Limpopo (13.4%).
It appears Limpopo is trying to win them back.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, unemployment in Limpopo dropped by 5.2%. The province has an unemployment rate of 31.7%, lower than the nation’s average of 32.7%.
Limpopo is also experiencing a property boom.
In the last five years, the average selling price of a home in Limpopo increased from R850 000 to over R1 million (R1 050 000).
According to Lightstone, property inflation in Limpopo surpassed property inflation in the Western Cape and Gauteng, reaching 6.82% in 2025.
Yet, job seekers may be hesitant to move to Limpopo because of the province’s dreary track record. Recently, the National Treasury announced it would withhold funds from 69 municipalities; five are in Limpopo. That’s one less than Gauteng’s six municipalities.
If job seekers decide to return or move to Limpopo, what would they have waiting for them?
Major developments have emerged in Polokwane, the province’s capital city.
One of these developments include a R5 billion hospital. Construction of the hospital will conclude in July 2028.
They may also have a growing private sector. Several industries have reported gains in the province in 2024, including finance and personal services.
On Friday, 10 July, Limpopo published over 700 jobs in the Department of Public Service Administration (DPSA) weekly circular. These jobs include entry-level, manual labour and senior management positions.
The listings close on 7 August 2026 and highlight that the province could be feeling the effects of internal migration.
But it could also suggest Limpopo may become an up-and-coming province.

Instead, it might offer relief to a fraction of those on the market.
One question remains: would you move to Limpopo for a job opportunity?
