With the second-best record in the National League, the Atlanta Braves can afford to take risks like this.
The Braves plan to reintroduce a position change to a veteran infielder.
"Kyle Farmer will reacquaint himself with the catching position when he begins his rehab assignment tomorrow," MLB.com's Mark Bowman reported on X on Tuesday.
Farmer has been limited to just 10 games this season due to a right forearm strain. He is a 10-year MLB veteran who has appeared at all five infield positions, including catcher.
"This won’t be Farmer’s first foray into catching — far from it, in fact. The 35-year-old infielder (36 in August) was drafted as a catcher and logged nearly 2800 innings at the position in the minors," Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.
"However, Farmer has played just 90 big league innings at catcher. Nearly all of that work came with the Reds back in 2019. He hasn’t caught even one inning in the majors or in the minors since that time."
The Braves recently re-signed veteran backstop Sandy Leon and acquired Joey Bart from the Pittsburgh Pirates last week.
Of course, Drake Baldwin is the cream of the crop at catcher in the Majors.

Atlanta will have to see Farmer's results behind the plate before making any determinations.
It appears this may be an "in case of an emergency" situation for Farmer and the Braves.
